Description

Dating back to the late 70’s, the Paris-Dakar Rally is regarded as one of the hardest endurance tests of both competitor and machine, with manufacturers entering a mix of off-road vehicles and motorbikes and stages typically covering 500+ miles a day, these machines were designed with one purpose, survival in the harshest conditions imaginable.

Yamaha’s entry spurned a host of replica models for enthusiasts and in 1984 they introduced the XT600, a new style of all-purpose Enduro model designed for dual-sport road and off-road riding.

Our 1986 example is known as the ‘Ténéré’, taking its designation from the infamous Sahara Desert stage of the Paris-Dakar, and sports a long-range fuel tank, 600cc single cylinder air/oil cooled engine and benefitted from both electric and kick starting.

A total engine overhaul was carried out in 2019 and the bike has covered only 641 miles since. The rebuild included:

New main seals
New valves
New Wiseco piston
New gearbox bearings
New seals
New cables
New steering head bearing

This is an iconic piece of motorcycle nostalgia from the 80’s, with some wonderful patina that adds to its appeal. Starts, rides and handles like a modern bike but has bags more character. A seriously cool bike…
